Fire Protection Engineer in Training

Overview

Responsibilities 

PTrutner Fire Protection Engineering Inc. is looking to grow our team with a highly motivated individual seeking an opportunity to work in an environment with direct communication and collaboration with a California State Licensed Fire Protection Engineer. This position is ideal for someone seeking an entry to mid-level position with the opportunity to grow and develop their
skills in fire protection engineering. The ideal candidate will be eager to gain experience in navigating the California Building and Fire Codes, NFPA Standards, UFC Design Criteria and FM Global requirements.

  • Perform fire protection engineering services to include fire / life safety consulting, fire sprinkler system design, fire alarm system design, rural area fire water plans and specifications, high piled storage assessments, and hazardous material assessments.

  • Prepare drawings, calculations, material submittals, reports, specifications, and other project deliverables as needed.

  • Building and Fire Code interpretation and analysis.

  • Fire protection system plan review services.

  • Effectively communicate with clients, staff, and various fire prevention offices.

  • Perform hydrant flow testing and develop flow test reports.

  • Perform site visits to document existing buildings and fire protection systems.

  • Take measurements with common construction job-site tools. (Tape measure, laser, wheel, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, in a related field and 1-2 years of experience in the fire protection industry. (A degree directly in Fire Protection Engineering will be considered in lieu of industry experience.)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills. Proficient in AutoCAD or equivalent drafting software and the Microsoft office suite.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and wants to be an integral part in the long-term growth of PTrutner Fire Protection Engineering Inc.

  • Ability to travel – primarily day trips with the occasional overnight trip.

  • Salary: Depends on experience
